Patient Consent for Canada

As a capability of the Patient Chart, Patient Consent for Canada displays a patient's current consent status and applies consent-driven access controls to clinical data queries. The capability is scoped to Canadian deployments and reflects regional consent directive requirements.

When a patient has an active opt-out consent directive, the Patient Chart displays a consent directive message on the Patient Summary, and Patient Chart APIs return the consent status but do not return clinical content. Clinicians and consuming applications receive a clear signal that the patient has opted out, without exposure to clinical data the patient has restricted.

This capability applies to Canadian deployments only. Deployments outside of Canada are not affected.

Consent Display in the Patient Chart

For patients in Canadian deployments, the Patient Summary displays the patient's current consent status. When the consent directive indicates an active opt-out, a consent directive message is shown to inform the clinician that the patient has restricted clinical data access.

Clinical Data Query Behavior

When a patient has an active opt-out consent directive, Patient Chart APIs that retrieve clinical content return the consent status only. Clinical content, including medical history records, clinical documents, and patient summary content, is not returned for opted-out patients.

Consuming applications can check the consent status returned in the response to determine whether clinical data is available for the patient.

Scope

Patient Consent for Canada applies to Canadian deployments only. Patient records from deployments outside of Canada are not affected by this capability.
