Network Reciprocity
Overview
Our integration supports two primary models for exchanging clinical data through CareQuality, CommonWell, and EHealth Exchange networks: the Classic Health Information Exchange (HIE) Model and the Federated Query Model. Each model is designed to facilitate secure, efficient data exchange across networks, meeting the varying needs of healthcare providers and their patients.
Classic HIE Model
In this model, clinical data is actively pushed to us by healthcare entities. We securely aggregate this data, storing it on behalf of our clients. When queries are made by approved external parties, we respond on our clients' behalf, providing the requested clinical data as required.
Federated Query Model
This model enables a more direct approach to data exchange. Our clients register their patients with us using Admission, Discharge, and Transfer (ADT) messages or FHIR resources. For incoming data requests, we federate queries to our clients' servers, allowing for real-time data retrieval directly from our clients’ sources.
Each model offers distinct advantages and operational requirements, which we’ll cover in detail on the following pages.
